Ones, stand for an election

1)

She can't differentiate funny remarks from the serious ones. Can 'ones' be used here?

2)

I stood as a candidate for the election to the Chamber of Deputies.

I stood as a candidate to the Chamber of Deputies.


I ran for the Chamber of Deputies.

I'm not sure about the last one, but I was trying to come up with a shorter version. I know that it's quite common in the US. (He ran for the office etc.)
