one way or another? one thing or another?

I have always been confused by these two expressions.
It's one way or another.
If it's not one thing, it's another.
Can anyone please explain these two expressions to me?

We'll get it done, one way or another.

It means that we will try and try and try to do it different ways, until we are successful.
