One time modest

A: I'm not that good.
B: Come on! Don't be so modest! there's a saying "one time modest equals 4 times self-important".

- Does B sound natural?

Thanks so much to Teachers,

Hi, Steven, Is this a translation of an existing saying? It doesn't quite work for me. I expect the implication is that someone who acts a little bit modest is actually strongly the opposite.

We have a few "first time / second time" sayings, but I don't think that's what you're looking for:

It's not that it isn't natural. It's that, as far as I know, that 'saying' really isn't a saying in English.
