How can I better say the following: We have just finished work on installation of the moderator to the reactor after the success in experiments with particles.

To Mister Micawber: I'm sort of tempted to insert the article "the" between "finished" and "installation". What would be the reason not to? Thanks!

What do you mean by "not called for"?
I think the commas isn't needed because it's sort of 'action'.

Here is another sentence: First tests of the moderator with the reactor on power are planned to start in the end of May 2012.
It sounds a bit off, doesn't it?
