One. Pronoun.

Hi teachers,

Is it necessary to write 'one' in the sentence below, or is it optional?

If yes, can you tell me why?

Mrs. Anderson’s house is the largest (one) in the street.

Thanks in advance

Thank you very much, but if 'the largest' was a superlative adverb, then 'one' has to be in the sentence, am I right?

Not an adverb. If you insist that 'largest' must serve an adjectival function, then yes, you need 'one' or another noun.

So sorry. I meant an adjective, a superlative adjective. Now it is obvious that I need it as you said, Mister Micawber.

Have a nice day and thanks a lot.
