One problem I met with

Well,I met two different types of English questions.

One is

---Look where are you going!
---I'm sorry,I ______.
A.didn't notice B.wasn't noticing C.haven't noticed D.hadn't noticed
The answer is B


The other is

---Don't put the waste on the ground,young man.
---I'm sorry,I_____the dustbin there
A.hadn't seen B.didn't see C.can't see D.wasn't seeing
The answer is B

What's the difference between them?

It is undoubtedly difficult to have the "authorities" admit they have made a mistake. I guess it happens everywhere. It certanly happens in my country too, more often than you would expect. We can only hope, though, that something will be done about this. Teaching just one word wrongly might be seen as being no big deal, but I think it can get the students into trouble later on

I concur with miriam on this one, the best answer is A. I suppose I could think up some situation where answer B would be appropriate but it would be a really uncommon and awkward situation and would require a specific context for it to work. There might be some grammatical basis for answer B being the right answer, but I can't think of anything off hand.

I think it's a pity that they had made such mistakes in such an IMPORTANT test.But that won't delay me much,anyhow,it is just 1' and I still have 149 marks to win.Hopefully,it won't happen in the future.
