"...one person putting a good spin on the partner..."

Hi all

Could you help me understand the meaning of 'good spin' here? Thank you.

They found that idealization appears to keep people together and keep them happier in marriage. "Usually, this is a matter of one person putting a good spin on the partner, seeing the partner as more responsive than he or she really is," says Ted Huston, the study's lead investigator. It's not a typical usage. Usually a spinmeister makes something seem different than it really is, true, but it's usually done for the benefit of someone he wishes to mislead, not for himself. You could put a good spin or a bad spin on something.

Edit. We usually associate "spin" with political operatives, or press secretaries, or publicity managers; whose job it is to handle damage control and make everything seem rosy. The new tax law will actually lower your tax, etc.

Ah, so that's what it means. One last thing, Avangi, why is 'responsive' here a good quality? What does it mean here?

Thanks again

Edit. Sorry, Publicity Agent is the correct time. I knew it wasn't right, but I just couldn't think.

Edit. Hmmm, make that "the correct term."
