One paragraph from the introduction of the novel 20,000 leagues under the sea

Hello everybody:
Recently, I'm reading Jules Verne's novel 20,000 leagues under the sea
the first part is a brife introduction written by Ray Bradbury, a renounced american writer. His words are really very beautiful, very literary, and I got this paragraph which lay beyond my comprehension :

Out of questions suddenly posed and needs suddenly found most needful, as the steam blew off and the proud dust settled we found:
Mad Captain Ahab.
Mad Captain Nemo.
Moby Dick, the great White Whale.

ps:what's the normal order of the first sentence? Is he using inversion?
Thank you very much!!!

Yes, he is using both inversion and suspended sense in a very compressed style which makes it hard to untangle. Here is one wa y to put the sentence into a straightforward order. As the steam blew off and the proud dust settled, we found mad Captian Ahab, mad Captain Nemo, and Moby, the great White Whale standing before us like a question suddenly posed to us or like a need we had not recognized before.
