One moonlit night

One moonlit night my friends and I were chatting in the courtyard of our village home. The whole village was fast asleep after day's work. Only five of us were staying up late (into the night) talking about everything under the sun.

We talked on and on, while the full, round moon glided back into the western (or eastern?) horizon, without we/us noticing it, and the cocks were crowing, signaling the dawn. At last, we called it a day and went to our beds.

Are there any mistakes? Do the passages need polishing? Thanks

Shouldn't it be '...went to bed'?
