one another refers to people or things?

Can you use one another when talking about things or only people?
How would you phrase:
My sure the 2 beds aren't touching one another.

Thanks

Make/Be sure the two beds aren't touching (each other/ one another). The last two words (in brackets) are fine, though they are not actually needed.
