One / a

Hello,

What is the difference between the following sentences? Are they all correct?

A-1. The sun rises a minute earlier tomorrow.

A-2. The sun rises one minute earlier tomorrow.

B-1. I ate an apple.

B-2. I ate one apple.

C-1. I'm a student.

C-2. I'm one student. (obviously this one is wrong but what is the actual reason?)

Thanks.

C-2 is the only one that isn't used. There is nothing ungrammatical about it. People just don't say I'm one student in any language, I suppose.

  • If you can think of a context in which it's natural, by all means, use it.
