One person quickly examines another visually "from head to toe." In public, it's considered rude, in most cultures.
(You can "get it" or "give it.")

Hi Avangi,

Thank you for explaining to me.

Can I ask what do you mean "You can "get it" or "give it"?

Best wishes,

Tinanam

In your example you say, "I get/got the once-over." (Someone was looking at you.)

If you're the one who does the "looking," you say, "I gave him/her the once-over."

Hi, Tinanam,

"Jim's post" makes me realize that "one person quickly looking at another from head to toe" is too restrictive.

It can refer to other situations:

Did you read my report? (reply) I gave it a quick look. / I gave it the once-over.

The implication is that you "glanced" at all of it, but so quickly that it was impossible

Hi Avangi,

In the case of my superior asks me if I read her report, and I say I gave it the once-over. I think she would think that I'm not doing my share of job. Would you agree?

English is very hard, Avangi, I have been trying to learn as many vocabulary as possible, but there are chances you could use them wrong in your daily email.

Thanks again for your help.
