I'd like to know which one of the following two sentences is correct:

I arrived on the island yesterday.

I arrived at the island yesterday.

Which one is more common?

I arrived at the island yesterday. I am on a ship and it came into port yesterday.
I arrived on the island yesterday. - I got off the ship and was walking on the land of the island yesterday.
