Which is correct and why, "The film is releasing on/at Christmas"?

There are several problems in your sentence. If Christmas is 3 months from now, it is the future, so 'will' is required. A film cannot released itself. Therefore, it is only correct to say " The film will be released [on Christmas day

Active voice MGM is releasing the film at Christmas.

Passive voice The film is being released (by MGM) at Christmas.


Such prepositions can be quite idiomatic.

That sounds like some sort of Indian accent. Maybe such constructions are common in Indian English.

However, as Ewizard said, in standard English a film or a movie can't really release itself.

You could say: The film is coming out next month.
