ON YOUR OWN

Dear Teachers,

1. I really believe it takes being totally out on your own to truly understand what it takes to live in the real world.

- "it takes being totally out on your own" means "it takes that you totally have to go out on your own", right?

2. What many parents don't understand is that the GPA from high school to college on average drops a full point.

- What does "GPA" stand for?

Thanks a bunch to Teachers,

Stevenukd.

Hi Steven, “Being out on your own” here is a noun phrase which describes a state in which a person is “fending for himself”. He has to find a job and apartment, does the house chores and pays the bills etc. GPA is Grade Point Average.
