I understand this:

"The team was on the losing end of the game."

Could I write this as the opposite:

"The team was on the winning end of the game."

I wouldn't say either thing. I think it has to be a deal or something like that that you're on the winning or losing end of, something that normally is not thought of as having a winner and loser. But there are two ends.
