On vs. In when Punching

He punches the man to his right on his ribcage with his left hand, shattering three of his ribs.

Is that okay with "on" there before "his" instead of "in" or can you only punch "in" and not "on"?

Word doesn't underline "ribcage" as being wrong, and in Collins Gem English Dictionary and the Oxford Dictionary of Current English (Third Edition), it is spelled as being one word as well.
