here is an example for more clarification.
depicted on the bar chart is the total number of calls attended between 2013 and 2014 .
depicted in the bar chart is the total number of calls attended between 2013 and 2014

My problem is the use of 'depict' itself. This is more direct, simple and natural:
'The bar chart shows the total number....'
'The bar chart shows the total number....'
