On vs. in

Hello, all. I have a question to ask.

I was using a sentence “~the goods will be shipped on week 39.”

However, someone told me that the correct way to say it was : "~in week 39", and that “on week ~“ did not exist grammatically.

Could you please tell me whether this is true and explain why?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Anon:
True.
We use "on" for days and dates:

We will ship your order on Monday.
We will ship your order on June 21st.
We will ship your order on Sept. 19th at 9:00.

We use "in" or "during" for weeks, months or years.

The next release will be available in 2011.
We will ship your order in October / week 39.
