On vacation vs vacationing

Hi,

I just wanna make it cear how it is different to use '' they are on vacation'' and '' they are vacationing''.

Is it a matter of which one is more common or is a matter of which one is more colloquial.

what is the big difference between a form of verb like '' I journeyed to Paris'' and a form of go on a journey

Thanks in advance

There is no big difference– just two ways of approaching the utterance.
