On top of the plane

We are not sitting on top of the plane.

There's no context, interpretation. It's one of examples from a grammar book which explain preposition on. Does that mean figuratively 'first class'?

It's not an idiom. It just sounds silly. ie You are sitting on the roof of th plane, If you are in first class, you sit at the front of the plane.
