...on top of the ill condition that I had forever been in."

Hi all

Could you please help me with this sentence? I want to say that A was happening to me on top of the ill condition that I had been in for a very long time.

"This was on top of the ill condition that I had forever been in." Or perhaps "...that I was forever in"?

Thank you.

Best wishes

This was on top of my chronic condition. This was on top of the fact that I have a chronic condition. It might be easier to express if you made it more specific, for example: This was on top of my (chronically) bad back.
