On the phone: It's me...

Hi

Would you say that both versions sound OK on the phone?

Alec: Who is this? or Who is that?

James: This is me, James. Don't you recognize my voice?

James: It's me, James. Don't you recognize my voice?

Thanks,

Tom

Either is acceptable although 'that' is probably more common; most would abbreviate it to 'who's [that / this]?' though.

Mr. TomJames: This is me, James.

Maybe it makes sense technically but it sounds unusual and not at all natural.

Mr. Tom
