On the phone

We say on the Internet. We don't say on Internet.
The article is necessary because there is only one Internet in the world.
Some people write 'internet' and some people write 'Internet'.
As far as I am concerned, both of them are fine.

I talked to her on the phone.
We don't say I talked her on phone.
What is the necessity of the article in the case of your telephone?
Obviously, if there is only telephone line or telephone system, it is fine to use the article.

Today you have landline, mobile, the Internet telephony like Skype, etc.

Hi Rotter

There's no logic behind idioms. Always on the phone, but, for example, on average, on an average and on the average.

Thanks Cool Breeze
So the idiom is the reason.

Strangely, when I was between 10-15 years age, I learnt to say that I talk to her over the phone.
You don't accept it today.

Hi Rotter

It should be ... between 10 and 15 years of age ... or ... between 10 and 15 years old

Is using "over the phone" not considered right now?

How did you want to use it?

Hi,

In modern usage, 'over the phone' suggests to me that you are doing something that is not usually done on the phone.

eg Tom proposed marriage to Mary over the phone.

eg The two students did their homework togther over the phone.

eg I bought a new car over the phone.

Hi,

Could be.

eg They had (cyber) *** over the internet.

Or maybe that is considered normal now. Emotion: wink

Lord, Clive, where else are you going to have cyber ***? Now that's redundant. Emotion: stick out tongue

I think that's a great categori
