On the ground?

“Battle,” said Ser Barristan. “Meereen is overcrowded and full of hungry mouths, and you have too many enemies within. We cannot long withstand a siege, I fear. Let me meet the foe as he comes north, on ground of my own choosing.”
(A Dance with Dragons, novel)

Hi. I know underlined part means at a location that I get to choose and “ground” is used uncountable here, but why it doesn’t make sense to say “on the ground of my own choosing”?

Thank you.
