Hi. I thought we usually use the phrase "in the field" in just about all possible sentential situations we might encounter in writing, but after a little searching (researching?) online, it was found to be wrong.

Which is correct?

He is in the soccer field/on the soccer field.

He plays bowling in the soccer field/on the soccer field.
