On the early morning of April 8

I saw an article with this phrase "...on the early morning of April 8..."

I always thought early morning should be used with 'in' instead of 'on'...am I wrong?

Context, context, context!

As it stands I don't have a problem with "on the early morning..." It's also possible to say "in the early morning..." depending on context.

It is correct to write "on" with dates: "on April 8" and "on the morning of April 8". The writer next adds a further time restriction by adding the adjective "early".

This could be rephrased: "On April 8, early in the morning." This sounds more natural to me.

No, you're not wrong. But in this case the author was anticipating the use of the date, and on is used with dates. on April 8. I would accept either in or on because both morning and a date are used here.
