On the days or the days?

Hello everybody. Can you please help me understand how I should write this sentence? Thank you in advance.
Which one is correct? Do you have any other suggestions for me?

"On the days you were absent, my life was bleak and cold."
OR
"The days you were absent, my life was bleak and cold."

"My life was bleak and cold on the days you were absent," is how people talk, therefore how you should write, unless you're TS Elliot.

Thank you dear Robert. Well, I am not TS Eliot, but the girl whose poems I am translating from Persian to English might be!
