On the alert

Is the following sentence acceptable ?

She was not on the alert that a bad guy with a mask traced her stealthily.

The grammar does not work. Here are two options:

She was not on the alert for a bad guy in a mask who was tracking her stealthily.
She was not aware that a bad guy in a mask was tracking her stealthily.

1. "on the alert" doesn't sound correct. "She was not aware/alerted" is better.

2. "traced" is not a good choice of word, and I think the sentence sounds better if you use past continuous tense. I think "...a bad guy with a mask was stalking her..." sounds much better.

3. "stealthily", though not wrong, sounds incongruous.
