On something, going somewhere

(1a) I am taking the bus home.

(1b) I am on the bus, going home.

(2a) I am taking the elevator to the tenth floor.

(2b) I am in the elevator, going to the tenth floor.

My non-native English speaking friends think all my sentences are correct. I am sure the a's are correct. Are the b's wrong? Thanks a lot.
