On so cheap a salary???

I need to choose a wrong part among the following underlined ones.

I wonder (A)how she manage (B)to get along (C)on (D)so cheap a salary.

Due to the location of "a" before salary, I choose (D) and the correct is also (D).
The thing I want to know is where is the location of "a" in the corrected sentence.

on a so cheap salary? or on so a cheap salary? or no need "a" there?

Thank you in advance for your teaching

There are two mistakes in the original. It should be: I wonder how she manage s to get by on so low a salary. It's 'so low a salary' or 'such a low salary'.
