on/in the upper left side of the picture, I can see a tree.

The most natural version is: "At the upper right corner of the picture....".

Kind in mind, the corner of a room is different the the corner of a building. So "on", "in" "at" and "of" are all possible. But for the posted question, "at" is my prefer

If we are talking about certain corner of a picture, "In" is not the best choice.
