On one's own account

Hi

It is a cosmic truth that it takes two to make a prisoner; a prisoner and a jailer. There is no such thing as being a prisoner on one's own account.

--- What does it mean to be a "prisoner on one's own account"?

The meaning is expressed in the first clause - every prisoner needs a jailer. You can't imprison yourself.

Perhaps you were confused because "a prisoner on one's own account" is not a standard expression. In my view, it's not even a good one. I may have said : "There is no such thing as self-imprisonment."

Kind regards, Michael
