on my mind= I'm thinking about something , something is troubling/worrying/disturbing me mentally and/or my mind (or my thoughts) is occupied in some way.

in my mind = in my opinion/my opinion is.../I think (this)... It's a discourse marker.

A; Can you please listen to me?

B: Oh, yes. Sorry. I've got too much on my mind at the moment.

..............

I would say:

Keep/bear it in mind! (=Remember it! Don't forget it!) No possessive pronoun after in.

To my mind, you shouldn't buy it. (= In my opinion, ...)

Then why was it suggested as a replacement for "on my mind".

Strangely, 'in my mind' as a discourse marker doesn't sound wrong to me . Maybe, not too frequently used, a bit out of date... Say, 30 years ago it definitely was OK.

I guess I'm old.
