On foot or By foot?

Which one is correct:: I walked to my school on foot/ By foot.?

On is more common, probably, but by is also correct. (A Google check would be interesting.)

The corpora give more relevant figures than Google.

The Corpus of Contemporary American English has 1,744 citations for 'on foot', 286 for 'by foot'.
The (smaller) British National Corpus has 474 for 'on foot' and 31 for 'by foot'.

In both varieties of English, 'on' is far more common than 'by'. 'By' is relatively two and a half times as common in AmE as in BrE.

From what I have being seen myself, I think the main difference between "on foot" and "by foot" is that:
"On foot" would be the one which is more commonly used.
He came on foot (=he walked)
"By" is usually used to talk about a means of transport (i.e plane, train, car, boat, bus, etc).
to travel by bus/car/plane.boat
