on final hearing

Dear all,

could anybody tell me what is the meaning of "on" in this case:

THIS case came before the court on final hearing for dissolution of marriage on November 7, 2008.

Does "on final hearing" mean "after" or are there other possibilities.

Thank you.

It seems here to mean 'for the purpose of'', unless further contest belies my interpretation.

No, the further context does not belie your interpretation. I think, it is correct and suits the context. Thank you!
