On either or each side of the road?

Hi. Please help. Which is correct for the following sentences? Let's say a person has placed boxes of clothes along the road, on the left and right side of the road. Thank you in advance.

1. On either (each?) side of the road, he placed boxes of clothes.
2. On either (each?) side of the road, there are boxes of clothes..
