on course to repeat..

'Messi is on course to repeat Maradona's heroics and become the best footballer of all time.'

Wondering if there any errors in the sentence above?

' It's fine. But if I wanted to be picky, I'd add the 'to' as shown, to clarify that Maradona did not become the best footballer of all time. You can't have two guys who are the best footballer of all time.

Thanks.
I came up with another sentence:
"Argentina making it to semis for the first time since 1990. It would be a fascinating sight to see Leo Messi lift the trophy by repeating Maradona's heroics. "

How does this sound? ^
