On a scholarship

My best friend went to a music school on a sholarship.

Hi,
Is it right to understand "on a scholarship" in the above as "depending on a scholarship?" If not, what does it mean? Thanks.

Hi, That's the general idea. A scholarship usually pays all or some of the cost. Clive
