On a good note

Hi, I am so depressed to find nothing in dictionary about this expression or idiom ,not sure, when I bent over backwards to find it after having seen it used from somewhere or somebody.

It is hard to get back the whole expression back then, but it was something similar to like this.

- I was on a good note with somebody

- I was on a bad note with somebody.

Can you lay out what it means and how to use it, and you are appreicated in advance.

The idiom refers to a single musical note, so the whole idiom is 'begin/start/end/finish on a good/bad note', and in the idiom, 'note' means action/thought/feeling/etc. My job began on a good note when I acquired a big new customer for the company right away! The party ended on a bad note, with everyone blaming everyone else for the shortage of beer.
