On a field/in a field

Dear all,

I would like to know which of the following sentences is correct.

1) Have you ever worked in a field?

2) Have you ever worked on a field?

To me "in" seems more likely than "on", but even with "in" the question seems slightly strange. Are you referring to agricultural work? g.

To me "in" seems more likely than "on", but even with "in" the question seems slightly strange. Are you referring to agricultural work? "Have you ever worked on a farm?" is a normal question, though it does not exclusively refer to working in fields (you could be e.g. milking cows in a shed). If you must refer to fields, perhaps "Have you ever worked in the fields?" would be better. In
