On

Hello everyone,

Is the preposition "on" correctly used in the following sentence?

- Several days later, on a foggy afternoon, I was standing at the door full of sad thoughts about my cousin.

What is confusing me is the preposition because you know that we use "in" with "afternoon", but why has "on" been used here? What does it mean? Could you give me some explanation, please?

Regards
