That transitive "dive" is a recent development. It is still divers' jargon and should be avoided in standard English. It has not entered the OED yet, but I think it is quickly gaining acceptance on TV. It is in the AHD. You hear people talk about diving a shipwreck, but they do so self-consciously, it seems to me.
