Omission ?

Do you think an omission takes place in a sentence below?

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

should be honored and ~~ kept pure

Is 'should be' taken out in front of 'kept pure'?

Since the subjects of each clause before and after 'and' has a different subject, I don't think 'should be' is omitted in front of 'kept pure'.

Or something I don't know^^

moon7296 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed [ should be] kept pure, for *** will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Should be has indeed been omitted. There is no other way to understand the sentence.

  • moon7296 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed [ should be] kept pure, for *** will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
  • Should be has indeed been omitted.
  • There is no other way to understand the sentence.
  • Without should be , kept would be in the active voice past tense and its subject would be the marriage bed: the marriage bed kept pure.
  • That is nonsense.

Thank you for the answer again, CB.

I have a question again(?)...

That is.. When does omission usually take place?

Isn't it to avoid a same subject in a complex sentence?

Not like the example above?

I don't think anyone can give a definitive answer to that question! Thare are far too many cases and types of sentence. I have never seen a list of cases in which some kind of omission is possible.
