Omission

Dear teachers, Please help me when you are free.

"The world-wide progress of countries toward independence is nowhere more evident than in Africa today."

Is it possible to omit in from this sentence?

Hi tashiro, Without the "in" it sounds like "Africa" is one of those countries. Obviously, there are many countries in Africa, and it's not a country, so the "in" is necessary.
