Olympics violations

The main reason the Chinese goverment bid for the games was that it wanted to improve its image, to show the new China to the world. It was so eager that it went to great lengths, making promises it's now finding difficult to keep, when it bid for the game. Issues like press freedom, pollution, freedom of speech, etc are some of the violations of the Olympic rules and they have been haunting China. Chinese official denied making those promises and that upsets the Olympics committee.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.

Thanks, Huevos. I have a couple of questions.

1. What's the difference between "it bid" and "made its bid"?

2. What is the difference between "The reason for the government" and "The reason the government"?

Thanks.

Both 1 and 2, are just style. I've converted "bid" to a noun in both cases instead of a verb. "Bid" as a verb is not only irregular but there are also different forms of each tense, (simple past: bid / bade / bad; past participle: bid / bidden) which might even leave some native speakers thinking you have made an error.

Thank you, Huevos. I really appreciate your suggestions. This is a good way to expand my "style list". I hope you'll continue to make these suggestions but I have to admit my low quality brain can only learn a couple at a time but I'm sure over time, the list will become more extensive.
