Vocabulary

'...olfactory...'

This appeals to the responders' olfactory sensory.

Would you phrase it this way? I wanted to 'academically' describe the type of sticker that they sometimes put in magazines or children books which it gives out a smell if its being scratched.

Thanks

" As object of the preposition "to," you need a noun. I think of "sensory" as an adjective. Some would argue that you have only one sense of smell, but quite a few olfactory sensors.

I'd use "sense" or "senses," or "sensors." As object of the preposition "to," you need a noun. I think of "sensory" as an adjective.

Thanks for replying, Avangi.

Just to make sure, did you mean 'olfactory sense/senses/sensors' or just 'sense/senses/sensors' alone?

Thanks again

I meant "olfactory sensors."

I suppose since you use the verb "appeals," you might not want to be too "scientific" on the other end - but of course that's your choice.

"Appeal" is personal, and cultural, and acquired. That is, it involves more of the brain than just the olfactory perception (eg., memory and association). You might say it stimulates the olfactory

Thanks for your follow-up, Avangi.

Don't worry. You are not complicating my choice of words. I am actually learning more this way.

Sounds like fun.
The term "olfactory lobes" just popped into my head. I expect this would refer to the location in the brain where the olfactory nerve(s) terminate, rather than to the sensors themselves. I'm too tired to look it up right now. You can, if you're interested.
