Old people should live in nursing homes rather than with their family. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is controversially believed that the elderly should live in nursing homes due to the merits each family can get. However, I hold the view that it is better for them to live with their family.

It is understandable why some people advocate sending old people to nursing homes. The key rationale in favour of this view is nowadays, people are becoming more occupied with their life. It stems from their career and other relationships in society, which dominates the time they should spend with their family. As a result, children have less time spent on taking care of their parents. Besides, some other people suppose that their parents would suffer from depression if there was no one talking to them. Therefore, the viable solution for this situation is taking them to nursing homes. Not only do old people get good service from the center, but they also have friends at the same age. There is no doubt that the elderly are cared honestly by the staff, and live in a modern-facilities home. Therefore, it is sensible that old people should be sent to nursing homes.

Although it may work to a certain extent, I believe that the aforementioned method can pose some problems to the old people. It is undeniable that the grandparents would get homesick when living far from their offspring for a long time. There is the truth that nothing is more precious than the care from closest people. No matter how many acquaintances around them, they could not get closer to their family. In addition, grandchildren will lose their chance of showing their gratitude to their grandparents, which may cause a wide gap between two generations. What’s more, paying for care centers can account for remarkably a family’s income. Therefore, from my point of view, in lieu of sending old people to nursing homes, people should use the same amount of money to take care of them.

In conclusion, while there are some reasons to support old people living in nursing home, I personally think it will be better if they can live with their family.
