Old English?

Hi. I think I saw this kind of sentence pattern in books like the Bible. Is it still correct in modern times? Please see the underlined part.

They will eat alone, as it were, and the others will eat in their own facility.

Also, I saw this phrase in the Bible, why "on the Halbor River" when Gozan is what I believe to be a place?
