Oil lamp?

What was the name in English (not American) of the type of lamps used a century or two ago in many countryside homes where there was no electricity and fuelled by, I believe, paraffin

Was it paraffin lamps, oil lamps or something else?

The attachment shows the type I mean even if I am thinking of soemthing a lot simpler.

I assume that you've attached a photo of the type of lamp you mean, but unfortunately I can't see it. However I don't think it matters because there was/is no special name for them in BrE, oil lamp and paraffin lamp are commonly used. You can still buy the typical lamp if you look for it particularly in camping shops.
